One of the ancient folk dance of Tamil Nadu is Karakaattam and is performed to praise the rain goddess Mariamman. Karakaattam is derived from Bharatham and is a mixture of multiple forms of dance forms like Bharatanatyam and mudras. The performers balance a pot on their head. Generally, this dance is classified into two types, Aatta Karakam and Sakthi Karakam.
